Failure & Foundations I: Understanding Self

Learn how to build resiliency to support you and your community-based work using the Failure Lab Archetypes model, a non-judgmental tool for self-reflection and communication. Attendees will begin a journey of self-analysis and discovery to spark thoughtful curiosity into your own instinctual responses to failure, your developed coping skills, and your existing (and to be developed) failure-positive skills.

In what ways have you been conditioned to think about failure and success? What does failure feel like to you? How does your relationship with failure impact your life? What is your most consistent response to stress & discomfort? How does it show up in your life? When are your response tendencies helpful, and when are they less-than-helpful?

Through self-reflection and group interaction, Failure Lab will help us understand our stress responses and how to apply strategies that will help optimize collaborative work in messy, sometimes stressful situations.

This year at Choices, all food will be presented buffet style. We do our best to ensure green salad ingredients and cheeses are presented individually and items like the Thai wraps, pancakes, oatmeal, and yogurt have all garnishes and sauces on the side. We have selected a variety of options at each meal that are gluten free, vegetarian, and vegan and labeled them here on Connect Space. Somerset Inn will also label the food that is gluten free, vegetarian, and vegan.

    Failure & Foundations II: The Science of Failure & Understanding Others 

    In work and in life, the things we assume and the biases that are buried deep within us can lead to a lot of frustration, misunderstanding, poor communication, breakdown of trust, and resentment. The body processes failure like any other stressor, through an involuntary sympathetic/autonomic nervous system reaction. This is commonly known as the fight, flight, or freeze response. By understanding the science of your hardwired reactions and what is happening in your body and brain when frustrations show up, you will gain insight and context that can help you become more skillful at navigating your life and relationships.

    Through this thoughtful self-reflection on failure, you will end the day with a better understanding of your relationship and behavior patterns, how your tendencies are perceived by others, and how you can be more effective in your interactions.
